Heathrow cargo handler collections are landside freight pickups from authorised cargo agents at London Heathrow Airport, delivered same-day to your consignee in London, the Thames Valley or wider South East. When an import arrives on an inbound flight and clears the cargo terminal, it sits in a cargo shed until collection. T&C Logistics coordinates with Swissport, Menzies Aviation, dnata, DHL, Kuehne+Nagel and DB Schenker to collect your AWB (airway bill) directly from the dock, handle the handover paperwork, and transport it on your schedule.
Whether you're a freight forwarder managing client shipments, a pharma importer working with temperature-sensitive stock, an aerospace MRO needing urgent AOG (aircraft on ground) parts, or an exporter arranging final-mile delivery of outbound consolidations, heathrow cargo handler collections are a core part of T&C's air freight network. We do not operate airside or ramp-side; instead, we work with licensed cargo handlers who manage the cargo shed and hand freight to our drivers at the dock perimeter.

What Heathrow Cargo Handler Collections Cover
A Heathrow cargo handler collection begins the moment your freight is logged in at the cargo terminal. Authorised handlers (Swissport, Menzies, dnata, DHL, Kuehne+Nagel, DB Schenker) physically hold your cargo in their shed. T&C coordinates with the handler, confirms the AWB number, checks that the shipment is ready for collection, and dispatches a driver to the cargo shed dock.
Once our driver arrives, the handler's dock staff perform a final reconciliation: they match the freight against the AWB, verify weight and piece count, and hand it over to our driver. We sign a proof of delivery (POD) at that point, and the cargo handler's liability ends. From that moment, T&C is responsible for the shipment.
Our collection scope covers:
- General cargo imports – consolidated loads, single-piece heavy freight, pallets.
- Pharmaceutical and temperature-sensitive stock – collected and delivered within defined temperature windows (driver briefed on handling protocol).
- AOG (aircraft on ground) parts – urgent aerospace components on a tight delivery clock.
- Consolidations for export – pre-departure pickups from forwarder consolidation centres within the Heathrow complex.
- Heavy freight – single items up to pallet weight, loaded via standard cargo equipment.
We do not provide locked-cage or high-security armoured transport (we can recommend specialist partner carriers for high-value or declared-value consignments). We do not clear customs or handle HMRC formalities (your forwarder or freight agent does that separately). We do not offer temporary storage, re-packaging, or labelling services at the cargo terminal.
Our job is to collect your AWB from the handler as quickly as operationally safe, and deliver it to your consignee or warehouse in one same-day trip.
Heathrow Cargo Terminal Geography
Heathrow has six cargo terminals and multiple handler locations. Understanding the physical layout helps explain why our collection times are reliable but not time-sliced to the minute.
Main Heathrow cargo buildings and handlers:
- Building 558 (Swissport) – located on the northern apron near Runway 3 Right. Swissport operates the largest independent handler operation at Heathrow, with dedicated facilities for general cargo, pharma, and perishables.
- Building 521 (Menzies Aviation) – southern side, near Terminal 3. Menzies handles AOG parts, perishables, and time-critical freight for global carriers.
- Building 549 (dnata City) – east of the main complex. dnata specialises in wide-body freight and consolidations for Middle Eastern carriers.
- World Cargo Centre – integrated facility serving multiple carriers, staffed by mixed handler teams.
- Cargo Point – smaller specialist facility used by some forwarders for own-network consolidations.
Access roads and perimeter: All cargo buildings are accessed via Cargo Perimeter Road and Wide Loop Road. These roads run around the Heathrow cargo apron, and are heavily regulated. Our drivers are familiar with entry procedures, marshalling bays, and dock protocols at each handler location. Depending on the terminal and current operations, pickups can take between 30 and 90 minutes from our dispatch call to dock handover — not because we are slow, but because handler staff need to locate the freight in the shed, run paperwork checks, and marshal it for our vehicle.
HMRC offices and customs formalities are separate from cargo terminal buildings. We do not interact with customs clearance; your forwarder or freight agent handles that process before or after our collection, depending on the import classification.
Which Cargo Handlers We Work With
T&C Logistics has established working relationships with all six major cargo handlers at Heathrow. Each handler specialises in different carrier networks and freight types, and we manage the logistics of collecting from each one seamlessly.
Swissport – the largest independent handler at Heathrow. Swissport manages general cargo, pharmaceuticals, perishables, and consolidated freight for carriers including British Airways (BA), Virgin Atlantic (VS), Lufthansa (LH), Air France (AF), and dozens of smaller carriers. When you have an import arriving BA or on a European carrier's Heathrow flight, Swissport is often the handler. We have daily pickups from Building 558, and our drivers are familiar with their dock procedures and peak times.
Menzies Aviation – specialist in AOG parts, perishables, and time-critical freight. Menzies holds freight for Qantas (QF), Emirates (EK), and several smaller carriers. If your freight is an urgent engine component or perishable fruit shipment, Menzies Building 521 is likely your handler. We prioritise AOG collections from Menzies and have dedicated dispatch protocols for rapid turnaround.
dnata – handles wide-body freight consolidations and is the primary handler for Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad. dnata City (Building 549) is our base for high-volume consolidation pickups. If you're a forwarder with a dnata consolidation or a direct importer on an Emirates flight, we coordinate directly with their dock team.
DHL – operates its own internal cargo network at Heathrow. DHL has dedicated facilities separate from the main terminal complex. If your shipment is on a DHL-labelled inbound or is part of a DHL consolidation, we collect from their facility and deliver on their schedule or yours.
Kuehne+Nagel and DB Schenker – both operate forwarding consolidation centres at or near Heathrow. If you have a less-than-full-load (LTL) import consolidation, these handlers may hold your portion until the full consolidation is cleared. We collect from their staging docks and deliver to your final consignee in one trip.
When you request a Heathrow cargo handler collection, we ask you to confirm which handler holds your freight. If you are unsure, your freight forwarder or the airline's station office will tell you. We then contact that handler directly, confirm the AWB and shipment status, and dispatch a driver to collect on your timeline.
Delivery Corridors from Heathrow
Once we collect your freight from the cargo handler, we deliver it across a wide geographic footprint. Heathrow's strategic position near the M4, M25, and M40 motorways makes same-day delivery feasible to most of the South East.
Primary delivery corridors:
- London Central and City of London – via M4 or A4/A406 north loop. Typical journey: 30–60 minutes depending on congestion and the final destination postcode.
- Thames Valley – west and south-west via M4. Slough, Iver, and West Drayton are 20–30 minutes from Heathrow. Reading, Bracknell, Maidenhead, and Wokingham are 45–75 minutes depending on motorway flow.
- M40 corridor to Oxford and the Midlands – via M25 junction 15 to M40. Oxford is typically 90–120 minutes from Heathrow. We regularly deliver to aerospace MROs and logistics hubs in this corridor.
- M3 corridor to Basingstoke, Winchester and Hampshire – via M25 south, then M3. Basingstoke is around 60–80 minutes; Winchester is 90–110 minutes.
- M23 corridor to Gatwick, Crawley and Sussex – via M25 south. Gatwick area is 60–80 minutes; Crawley 70–90 minutes.
- M1 north to Luton, Stevenage and the East Midlands – via M25 clockwise. Luton is 75–90 minutes; Stevenage 90–110 minutes.
All of these journeys are affected by real-world traffic, especially during London peak hours (07:00–10:00 and 16:00–19:00). We factor in buffer time when we quote, but we do not guarantee arrival to the minute. What we guarantee is that your cargo will be collected same-day and delivered to your consignee by close of business unless exceptional circumstances (major accident, severe weather, consignee unavailability) intervene.
Our fleet is ULEZ-compliant, which means we can legally operate within the Ultra Low Emission Zone (central London) at all times, including weekday rush hours. This is a practical advantage for central London deliveries.
Chain of Custody and Paperwork
From the moment we collect your freight at the cargo handler's dock to the moment it reaches your consignee, we maintain a clear chain of custody and documented handover.
Collection at the cargo shed: When our driver arrives at the cargo handler (Swissport, Menzies, dnata, DHL, Kuehne+Nagel, or DB Schenker), the handler's dock staff will present the freight against the AWB. Our driver inspects the cargo for obvious damage, matches piece count and weight to the AWB, and signs a POD (proof of delivery) document. The POD records the date, time, cargo description, AWB number, handler name, and driver signature. This POD is the legal handover point: before this signature, the handler is liable; after it, we are liable.
During transit: Our vehicle is fitted with GPS tracking. If you have a live tracking link, you can see vehicle location in real time. Our drivers are NDA-briefed on cargo confidentiality and handle time-sensitive, high-value, or sensitive freight with appropriate care. We do not discuss cargo contents with third parties.
Delivery to consignee: We deliver to the named consignee address or, if you prefer, to a designated warehouse or collecting agent. Upon arrival, the consignee (or their nominated representative) signs a POD confirming receipt. That signature is your proof that the freight arrived intact and on time.
Customs and compliance: We do not handle HMRC customs clearance. Your freight forwarder, customs broker, or in-house compliance team will have cleared the shipment through HMRC before or after our collection, depending on your import classification. Customs paperwork (entry documents, import VAT, tariffs) is entirely separate from our collection service. We will not collect a shipment that is not cleared for release by customs, and we do not interact with HMRC on your behalf.
Photographic evidence: On request, we can provide photographs of your cargo at collection (showing condition and labelling) and at delivery (confirming consignee receipt). This is useful for insurance or dispute resolution.
What We Do Not Offer at Heathrow
Transparency matters. There are several services we do not provide at Heathrow, and it is important you understand the boundaries of our scope.
Airside access: We do not operate airside at Heathrow. We do not hold airside passes, permits, or credentials. We do not collect freight from the aircraft ramp, tarmac, or any area beyond the cargo terminal perimeter road. All our collections are landside, at the cargo shed dock, after the handler has taken physical possession of the freight from the aircraft. If you need aircraft-side handling (e.g., loading spare engines onto an aircraft, or collecting from a parked aircraft before it moves to the cargo terminal), that is handled by the airline's own ground operations team or a specialist airside handler, not by T&C.
Ramp services: We do not provide ramp-side pickup, aircraft-side delivery, or any service that involves access to the operational airfield. Ramp operations require separate licensing, insurance, and regulatory compliance that fall outside our business model.
Customs clearance: We do not clear your freight through HMRC customs. We do not submit entry documents, calculate import duty, or liaise with revenue officials. Your freight forwarder, customs broker, or import compliance team is responsible for that process. If your freight requires customs examination or re-packaging post-inspection, you arrange that separately — we simply collect the released cargo and deliver it.
High-value or security-vetted transport: We do not provide locked-cage or armoured vehicles, and we do not employ security-vetted personnel (e.g., DV-cleared or specialist vetting). If your shipment is high-value jewellery, cash, restricted components, or requires specialist security protocols, we recommend connecting with a partner carrier that specialises in that service. We can make an introduction if needed.
Storage: We do not store freight at Heathrow or at our base. Our service is collection and same-day delivery only. If you need temporary storage pending consignee availability, that is arranged separately with a Heathrow bonded warehouse operator.
Repackaging, labelling, or consolidation: We do not re-label freight, re-consolidate multiple shipments, or perform any value-add warehousing at Heathrow. We collect what the handler gives us and deliver it as-is to your consignee.
These limitations are not weaknesses — they are honest boundaries that allow us to focus on what we do well: rapid, reliable, same-day landside collection and delivery. If you need services outside this scope, we can recommend specialist partners.
Booking and Dispatch from Heathrow

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you access airside at Heathrow?
- No. T&C Logistics operates landside only at Heathrow. We collect freight from the cargo shed dock after it has been handed to us by authorised cargo handlers (Swissport, Menzies, dnata, DHL, Kuehne+Nagel, DB Schenker). We do not hold airside passes, do not collect from the aircraft ramp, and do not provide ramp-side services. If you need aircraft-side handling, that is managed by the airline's own operations team or a specialist airside handler.
- Which cargo handlers do you collect from at Heathrow?
- We collect from all major handlers: Swissport (Building 558), Menzies Aviation (Building 521), dnata City (Building 549), DHL (internal facility), Kuehne+Nagel, and DB Schenker. Each handler specialises in different carriers and freight types. When you book, tell us which handler holds your freight, or provide the inbound flight number and carrier — we will identify the handler and coordinate directly with their dock team.
- How fast is a Heathrow cargo handler collection?
- Collection time depends on handler workload and cargo location within the shed. Typical collection from booking to dock pickup is 30–90 minutes. We do not offer minute-specific response times because handler staff need time to locate your freight, run paperwork checks, and marshal it for our vehicle. What we guarantee is same-day collection and delivery if you book within business hours, subject to consignee availability.
- Do you handle temperature-controlled or pharma freight from Heathrow?
- Yes. We regularly collect pharmaceutical and temperature-sensitive shipments from Swissport and other handlers at Heathrow. Our drivers are briefed on pharma handling protocols, and we can arrange insulated or refrigerated transport if needed. Confirm your temperature requirements when you book, and we will ensure the driver and vehicle are appropriate for your cargo.
- Do you clear customs for my import?
- No. HMRC customs clearance is handled by your freight forwarder, customs broker, or in-house compliance team — not by T&C. We collect freight that is already cleared and released by customs. If your shipment requires examination or re-packaging post-inspection, you arrange that separately. We simply pick up the released cargo and deliver it to your consignee.
- What areas do you deliver to from Heathrow?
- We deliver same-day across London, Thames Valley (Slough, Reading, Bracknell, Maidenhead), the M40 corridor to Oxford and the Midlands, the M3 corridor to Basingstoke and Hampshire, the M23 to Gatwick and Sussex, and the M1 north to Luton and Stevenage. Journey times vary with traffic; we factor in buffer time but do not guarantee arrival to the minute. If your consignee is outside these areas, contact us for a bespoke quote.
