T&C Logistics delivers for clothing brands, wholesalers and manufacturers across the UK. Garments travel one of two ways — hanging on rails or boxed flat — and the choice decides everything else. Hanging stock reaches the shop floor ready to sell; boxed stock is cheaper to move and arrives needing pressing.

Garment Distribution pricing — from £50 (ex VAT)

One fixed price per dedicated job, quoted in full upfront before you book — fuel and goods-in-transit insurance included, no hidden fees. Final price depends on distance, vehicle, urgency and time of day.

You pay for a dedicated vehicle, not a shared-parcel network rate — so there is no consolidation delay. Call +44 7963 400173 with your collection and delivery postcodes for an instant, all-in quote.

A dress that arrives creased is a dress that does not sell that week. Retail staff will steam it eventually, but on a delivery of two hundred pieces into a shop with one steamer, eventually means Friday — and the drop was meant to be on the floor by Tuesday.

T&C Logistics delivers for clothing brands and labels, garment wholesalers, manufacturers and workwear suppliers. Companies House records over 5,700 active UK companies in clothing, garments and apparel. We have run retail distribution since 2020 with more than 3,000 vetted driver-partners nationwide. Quotes from £50 (ex VAT), quoted in full upfront before you book.

Hanging or boxed — which should stock travel as?

It depends on what happens at the far end. Garments on hangers reach a rail ready to sell; boxed stock packs three to four times more densely and arrives needing handling.

The fabric decides more than the price does. Knitwear stretches on a hanger and structured tailoring crushes in a box, and neither recovers fully.

How are hanging garments actually carried?

On rails secured to the vehicle, with the garments spaced rather than compressed and the rail restrained against swing.

Compression is the failure that people underestimate. Garments packed tight on a rail crease along the shoulder line exactly as they would in a box, which defeats the point of hanging them at all.

Rail movement is the other. A loaded rail swinging on cornering damages garments at the ends and can pull a fixing loose, so the rail is restrained rather than left to hang free. Vehicle height also matters: long coats and dresses need clearance the shorter vans do not have.

What are retail delivery windows like?

Narrow, fixed by the retailer rather than the supplier, and frequently before the store opens. A shopping centre unit takes deliveries through a service yard on a booked slot; a high street store takes them through the front door before trading.

Shopping centres are the more rigid. Service yard access, a booking system, a height restriction and a time limit are all normal, and a vehicle arriving without a booking waits or is turned away regardless of what it is carrying.

Independent stores are more flexible but have no goods-in area at all, which means a delivery lands in the shop while customers are in it. Early slots exist for a reason. See our shopfitting delivery service.

How do seasonal drops work?

In waves against a range plan, and missing one costs a selling window rather than a day. Fashion retail buys to a season and a drop that lands after the marketing has run is a drop selling into no demand.

The pattern is heavy volume in short bursts — a new season landing across a store estate in the same week — followed by quiet periods. That makes capacity planning far more important than average volume in this trade.

Sale periods invert it: stock consolidating rather than distributing, moving from stores to outlets or back to a warehouse. Those are collection rounds rather than delivery ones and they need the same planning.

Do you handle returns and stock recalls?

Yes, and returns volume in clothing is higher than in almost any other retail category. Online apparel in particular generates a substantial return flow that has to get back to a warehouse to be resold.

Speed matters commercially rather than logistically. A returned garment sitting in transit is stock that cannot be sold during the season it belongs to, and by the time it arrives late it is markdown stock.

Inter-store transfers work the same way — a size moved from a store that cannot sell it to one that can is a sale recovered, provided it moves quickly. See our ecommerce seller courier service.

Can you deliver to showrooms and press events?

Yes, and sample stock is the most delicate part of the trade. A press or buyer showing runs on presentation, and a sample rail arriving creased or short is a commercial problem rather than a delivery one.

Sample collections are usually one-of-a-kind. There is no replacement in a warehouse, which puts them in the same category as made-to-measure goods: modest apparent value, high consequence.

Timing is fixed by the event. Buyer appointments and press days do not move, and a rail arriving an hour late has missed the appointment it was for. See our exhibition and events logistics service.

Is clothing a theft target in transit?

Branded stock is, and it is one of the more commonly targeted retail categories. A vehicle of desirable branded apparel is worth stealing in a way that a vehicle of packaging is not.

The practical controls are ordinary rather than exotic: no overnight parking with load aboard where it can be avoided, no unattended vehicles at drops, and handover to a named person against a signature.

Our goods-in-transit cover is £50,000 on our own vehicles and up to £1,000,000 through partner arrangements. Consignment values above that need to be declared and arranged in advance rather than assumed.

How does workwear distribution differ from fashion?

It is size-driven rather than season-driven. A workwear supplier ships to named individuals in specified sizes against a contract, which makes accuracy matter more than speed.

The recurring pattern is a rolling replacement flow rather than a seasonal drop: new starters, worn-out garments and size changes generate continuous small consignments to sites rather than large ones to stores.

Branded workwear also carries an embroidery or print stage, which makes each garment made-to-order once personalised. A wrong-sized personalised jacket cannot be returned to stock, which puts it in the made-to-measure category. See our workwear and linen delivery service.

Do you deliver to concessions inside department stores?

Yes, and it is one of the more constrained retail deliveries. A concession takes goods through the host store's goods-in on the store's terms, not the brand's, and the brand has no say in the window.

The practical consequence is that a delivery which misses the store's receiving hours does not become a late delivery — it becomes a delivery the store will not take at all until the next receiving day.

Booking references and a named recipient at the concession are what make it work. A consignment arriving addressed only to the store is a consignment that reaches goods-in and stops there.

What happens to unsold and end-of-season stock?

It consolidates, and consolidation is a bigger transport job than most brands plan for. Stock comes back from stores to a warehouse, moves to outlets, or goes to clearance channels — three different destinations from one origin.

Timing is commercial. Stock recovered quickly can be redeployed to a store still selling it or moved to an outlet while it is still current; stock recovered slowly is only worth its clearance value.

Condition and count both matter on the return leg. Garments coming back from a shop floor have been handled by customers, and a return recorded as saleable that turns out not to be is a reconciliation problem later.

Can you carry stock into a pop-up or sample sale?

Yes, and it is a two-way event job on a fixed window. A pop-up needs stock, rails, tills and fixtures in before opening and everything out again afterwards, frequently overnight.

The volume is deceptive. A sample sale that occupies a small unit for three days can involve several vehicle loads of stock, because the whole point is depth of range rather than a curated selection.

Breakdown is the harder half. Unsold stock at the end of a sale has to be counted, packed and recovered at an hour when the venue wants everyone out, which needs planning rather than goodwill. See our exhibition and events logistics service.

Fixtures are the forgotten half of the load. Rails, mirrors, tills and signage all have to arrive and leave with the stock, and a pop-up without its rails is a room full of boxes. See our shopfitting delivery service.

What does garment distribution cost?

A rate per drop on a standing arrangement, or one fixed price for a dedicated run, quoted upfront with fuel and goods-in-transit insurance included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should garments travel hanging or boxed?
It depends on what happens at the far end and on the fabric. Hanging stock reaches a rail ready to sell; boxed stock packs three to four times more densely and arrives needing pressing. Knitwear stretches on a hanger and structured tailoring crushes in a box, and neither recovers fully — the fabric decides more than the price does.
How are hanging garments secured?
On rails fixed to the vehicle, garments spaced rather than compressed, and the rail restrained against swing. Compression is the underestimated failure — garments packed tight crease along the shoulder line exactly as in a box. A swinging loaded rail damages the end garments and can pull a fixing loose. Long coats also need vehicle height.
What are shopping centre deliveries like?
Rigid. Service yard access, a booking system, a height restriction and a time limit are all normal, and a vehicle arriving without a booking waits or is turned away regardless of what it carries. Independent stores are more flexible but have no goods-in area, so a delivery lands in the shop while customers are in it.
Why do seasonal drops need capacity planning?
Because they arrive in waves rather than steadily — a new season landing across a store estate in the same week, then quiet. Missing a drop costs a selling window rather than a day, since stock landing after the marketing has run sells into no demand. Sale periods invert it into consolidation and collection rounds.
How quickly do returns need to move?
Faster than most people plan for, and the reason is commercial rather than logistical. A returned garment sitting in transit is stock that cannot be sold during the season it belongs to, so by the time it arrives late it is markdown stock. Inter-store transfers work the same way — a size moved quickly is a sale recovered.
Can you deliver sample rails to press events?
Yes, and sample stock is the most delicate part of the trade. Samples are one-of-a-kind with no warehouse replacement, which puts them in the same category as made-to-measure goods. Timing is fixed by the event: buyer appointments and press days do not move, so a rail an hour late has missed the appointment it was for.
What insurance covers a garment consignment?
Goods-in-transit cover of £50,000 on our own vehicles and up to £1,000,000 through partner arrangements. Branded apparel is one of the more commonly targeted retail categories, so consignment values above that cover need to be declared and arranged in advance rather than assumed.
