T&C Logistics moves pallets out of Oldbury on dedicated vehicles - one driver, no network leg, no depot sortation - dispatched from our own base in the town at B69 2HG beside M5 junction 2. Capacity runs from a single pallet in a box van to fourteen on an 18-tonne rigid, with tail lift where the far end has no forklift. Because road freight is Oldbury's largest trade, a good share of this work is overflow capacity for operators whose own vehicles are committed. Enquiries answered 06:00 to 22:00, seven days a week.

Companies House register: Oldbury has 3.6K active companies — including 392 transport & logistics firms, the operating context for Oldbury collections and deliveries.

Oldbury is a town that moves goods for a living. Companies House records 281 companies listing freight transport by road among their registered SIC codes, 103 listing courier activities, and 176 holding vehicle operator licences, out of 3,554 active companies - and road freight is the single largest primary classification in the town at 244 firms, ahead of real estate. That shapes what pallet work here actually is. A large share of it is not a shipper sending a pallet; it is an operator whose own vehicles are all committed and who needs one load covered today without losing the customer. Our base sits inside the same postcode at B69 2HG, about a mile from the centre of the post town, which is why the approach leg on an Oldbury pallet job is close to nothing. Everything here runs dedicated: one vehicle, your pallets only, no hub.

Why would an operator with its own fleet buy a pallet run?

Because the eleventh job does not fit. With 281 road-freight and 103 courier firms in one post town and 176 licensed operators among them, the commonest local situation is full commitment and a customer who still needs a pallet moved today.

A dedicated vehicle from us covers that without the operator subcontracting into a network it cannot control. The booking runs on the same terms as a direct one: one fixed price agreed upfront, goods-in-transit cover of £50,000 per consignment, and a signed, timestamped delivery record handed back. We are not trying to take the customer — a town where road freight is the biggest single trade is a source of work for us, not only a market to sell into.

What is the difference between dedicated pallet delivery and a pallet network?

A pallet network consolidates: your pallet goes to a hub, is sorted among thousands of others, and is trunked out on a different vehicle. Dedicated means one vehicle carries your pallets from collection to delivery with no hub and no re-handling.

The trade-off is honest in both directions, and we will say which you need. For a single standard pallet going a long distance with a day or two to spare, a network is cheaper per pallet because the vehicle cost is spread. For anything urgent, oversized, fragile, high-value or regulated — or for a delivery point a network cannot serve reliably — the hub is the risk you are paying to remove.

How many pallets fit on each vehicle?

Between two and fourteen, depending on the vehicle, and the limit is usually floor space rather than weight unless the pallets are dense. A full UK pallet at 1200 by 1000 millimetres takes a defined footprint, so the arithmetic is predictable.

What changes the answer is height and whether the pallets can be double-stacked. A pallet that can be stacked effectively halves the floor space it needs; one that cannot — because the load is fragile, uneven or topped out — takes its full footprint.

Which pallet sizes do you carry?

All the standard ones and the awkward ones. The UK standard pallet is 1200 by 1000 millimetres and the Euro pallet is 1200 by 800, with half and quarter pallets below those — but on a dedicated vehicle the footprint matters more than the label, because we are not pricing against a network's size bands.

That is the practical advantage for anything non-standard. An overhanging load, an overheight pallet, a pallet at an unusual weight or a one-off crate on a bespoke base all get refused or surcharged by networks built on fixed size classes. On a dedicated vehicle the only questions are whether it fits and whether it can be secured.

What if there is no forklift at the delivery point?

Book a tail lift, and tell us at quote stage rather than on arrival. A hydraulic tail lift lowers the pallet to ground level and a pallet truck moves it clear of the vehicle, which is what makes a kerbside or yard delivery possible without lifting plant.

Two things limit it. The ground has to be firm and reasonably level — a tail lift will not place a pallet safely on soft or steeply sloping ground — and the pallet has to be within the lift's capacity and small enough to sit on the platform. Where neither holds, the alternative is a forklift at the receiving end or breaking the pallet down by hand, both of which are decisions to make before the vehicle is dispatched. This is the single commonest reason an Oldbury pallet booking moves up a vehicle class.

Can you hit a booked delivery slot at a distribution centre?

Yes, and on a dedicated vehicle it is considerably easier than on a network, because the vehicle is not waiting on a trunk arrival before it sets off. Oldbury has 22 warehousing firms and 716 wholesale and retail businesses registered to the post town, so booked-bay deliveries are routine work.

What we need is the slot time, the booking reference and the gatehouse procedure. Distribution centres typically operate a tolerance either side of the slot and will turn away or re-book a vehicle that misses it, so the slot — not the customer's preference — is what the run is planned around. Where a slot is tight we will say what time the collection has to happen to make it, rather than accepting the booking and hoping. Waiting time at a bay queue is charged, and that is stated upfront rather than discovered on the invoice.

Where do Oldbury pallet loads go?

Short legs dominate. Junction 2 of the M5 is signed for Oldbury on the A4123, and the surrounding towns are rarely more than 5 miles off, so a great deal of this work is intra-conurbation. Longer legs run down the M5 to the South West and north on the M6.

Because the neighbouring towns are so tightly packed, a single Oldbury booking frequently chains a second collection or delivery on the same run, which is where a dedicated vehicle beats a network on cost as well as on time. Pallet work on the same terms is available in West Bromwich, Smethwick, Wednesbury and Cannock.

How is a pallet job from Oldbury priced?

From £50 (ex VAT) at the smallest end, as one fixed price for the whole dedicated job agreed before collection. Final price depends on distance, vehicle, urgency and time - quoted in full upfront before you book. Fuel and goods-in-transit cover are inside the figure.

Note what you are not paying for: there is no per-pallet network rate, no size-band surcharge and no re-delivery fee structure, because there is no network. You are paying for a vehicle and a driver for the duration of the job.

What cover and paperwork comes with the pallets?

Goods-in-transit insurance of £50,000 per consignment, extending to £1,000,000 through partner carriers where the value requires it, plus public liability of £1,000,000. Limits, exclusions and the claims route are in our terms.

Operationally the fleet is ULEZ-compliant, drivers hold Driver CPC, and the company runs under an Operator's Licence as T&C Logistics Ltd, Companies House number 16838210. Collection and delivery are signed and timestamped — which on subcontract work is usually the record that settles any question of what was handed over and when. For consignments leaving the UK the CMR note governs rather than a domestic delivery sheet; see the CMR Convention and proof of delivery.

How do I book pallet delivery in Oldbury?

Four things: the number and size of pallets, their total weight, both postcodes, and whether either end has a forklift. With those we confirm a vehicle class and one fixed price before anything moves.

  1. Call 0121 720 3841 for the Oldbury office or +44 7963 400173 for dispatch. Enquiries are taken around the clock and answered between 06:00 and 22:00, seven days a week.
  2. Give pallet count, footprint, height and weight — height decides whether they can be stacked.
  3. Say whether there is a forklift, a loading bay or a tail lift needed, at both ends.
  4. Flag anything regulated or fragile: ADR class, a 2-8 °C requirement, or a value needing the higher insurance limit.
  5. Accept the fixed price and the nearest vetted driver-partner from our 3,000-plus network takes the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take overflow pallet work from other Oldbury operators?
Regularly — it is a large part of what we do here. Road freight is Oldbury's largest primary SIC classification at 244 firms, with 281 listing it among their codes and 176 licensed operators in the post town, so the commonest local need is one load covered when a fleet is fully committed. The job runs on the same fixed price, the same 50,000 pound goods-in-transit limit per consignment and the same signed, timestamped delivery record as a direct booking.
Is a dedicated vehicle cheaper than a pallet network?
Not for a single standard pallet with a day or two to spare — a network spreads the vehicle cost across thousands of pallets and will be cheaper, and we will tell you so. Dedicated wins where the hub is the problem: anything urgent, oversized, overheight, fragile, high-value or regulated, or any delivery point a network cannot serve reliably. You are paying to remove the re-handling, not to buy speed alone.
How many pallets can you carry at once?
Two to four in a box van, four to five in a Luton van, six to eight on a 7.5-tonne box truck and twelve to fourteen on an 18-tonne rigid. Floor space usually binds before weight unless the pallets are dense. Whether they can be double-stacked changes the answer materially: a stackable pallet effectively halves the floor space it needs, while a fragile or topped-out one takes its full footprint.
Can you handle oversize or overheight pallets?
Yes, and that is one of the clearer advantages of a dedicated vehicle. Networks are built on fixed size bands, so an overhanging load, an overheight pallet, an unusual weight or a one-off crate on a bespoke base gets surcharged or refused. On a dedicated run the only questions are whether it fits the load space and whether it can be secured, so we price on the measurement rather than on a band.
What if the delivery address has no forklift?
Book a tail lift and say so at quote stage. A hydraulic tail lift lowers the pallet to ground level and a pallet truck moves it clear. Two limits apply: the ground has to be firm and reasonably level, and the pallet must be within the lift's capacity and fit the platform. Where neither holds, the alternatives are a forklift at the far end or breaking the pallet down — both decisions to make before dispatch.
Which pallet sizes do you work to?
All of them. The UK standard pallet is 1200 by 1000 millimetres and the Euro pallet 1200 by 800, with half pallets around 1200 by 500 and quarter pallets around 600 by 500. On a dedicated vehicle the footprint matters more than the label, because we are not pricing against a network's size classes — non-standard and oversize loads are quoted on the measurement.
