What cremated remains transport covers

Our service covers the full range of consignments funeral professionals and families need moved. Standard cremation urns and caskets (up to ~4-5 kg total consignment weight, boxed by the crematorium or funeral director) are the routine collection. We also handle biodegradable scattering urns, water-soluble memorial vessels, decorative keepsake urns, and multi-vessel divisions where remains have been split between family members. For international repatriation, we work alongside UK funeral directors and consular services to move remains between the crematorium and the airport (landside cargo handler drop-off, not airside — we work with Swissport, Menzies, dnata, DHL, Kuehne+Nagel and DB Schenker at Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester for onward air consignment).

We do not handle uncremated remains — that requires specialist funeral transport with licensed hearse capability, which is outside our service. For non-cremated funeral transport we refer to a partner UK funeral logistics operator.

UK coverage for cremated remains transport

We cover mainland UK end-to-end from our Thames Valley base. Typical corridors: crematorium-to-family across any UK city or town, funeral-director-to-funeral-director between practices, crematorium-to-interment-site (churchyard, memorial park, family plot), and crematorium-to-airport for international repatriation via Heathrow (30 minutes), Gatwick (60 minutes), Manchester (3.5 hours) and other UK cargo airports.

Named-region routine coverage includes Greater London, Home Counties, Thames Valley, the Midlands (Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham), the North West (Manchester, Liverpool, Preston), Yorkshire (Leeds, Sheffield, York, Bradford), the North East (Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough), Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen), Wales (Cardiff, Swansea, Newport) and the South West (Bristol, Bath, Exeter, Plymouth). Funeral director-to-funeral director transfer: when a family moves between regions or arranges a memorial in a different city, remains often need to travel between the originating funeral director and the coordinating one. We handle these as scheduled next-day runs with signed chain-of-custody documentation at both ends.

International repatriation coordination: we do the UK ground leg — crematorium to the appropriate airport cargo handler for onward air consignment. We coordinate with the funeral director's international partner and the airline's cargo handler (Swissport, Menzies, dnata, DHL, Kuehne+Nagel, DB Schenker) on landside hand-off; we do not book the international air leg ourselves nor operate airside.

Multi-vessel division for family: where remains have been divided between family members (a common request), we can make multiple deliveries from a single collection, each with individual hand-to-hand hand-off. Each division is treated as a separate delivery for chain-of-custody, but priced as a single multi-drop consignment.

Chain of custody and paperwork

Every cremated remains consignment is a dedicated single-consignment vehicle — nothing else on board during the journey. This is a service principle, not an upgrade option. Signed POD by the named recipient at hand-off. Photographic POD (timestamped, geo-located) available on request — often requested by funeral directors for their own record-keeping. GPS-tracked vehicle with dispatch live view. NDA-briefed drivers as standard.

We provide a chain-of-custody form filled in at collection and signed at delivery — this is the funeral industry standard document format. Where a funeral director has their own bespoke chain-of-custody paperwork, we complete theirs instead. For international repatriation, we complete the airline cargo handler's documentation as required (typically an AWB acceptance form) and hand off with signature.

Vehicles and equipment

Our fleet for this service is unmarked ULEZ-compliant vans and estate cars. Vehicle choice depends on distance and driver rest requirements — for a Thames Valley to Aberdeen run we deploy a comfortable long-distance vehicle; for a same-day Manchester-to-Cardiff run a standard van is appropriate. All vehicles are clean, secured, and dedicated to the single consignment for the duration.

For handling equipment we do not need specialist lifts — standard crematorium urns and caskets are hand-carriable. Where a memorial vessel is heavier (some biodegradable water scattering urns can be 8-10 kg with contents), we assign a driver briefed on the specific handling requirements. We do not carry the equipment for interment (spades, ropes) — that's the funeral director's or receiver's responsibility.

Booking recurring routes and business accounts

UK funeral directors with regular routes — crematorium to home city, or between regional partner practices — benefit from a business account. This includes fixed dispatch windows (many crematoria have specific afternoon collection windows we build the schedule around), named-driver continuity where possible (helps with crematorium reception familiarity), consolidated monthly invoicing (one invoice per month, not per consignment), and priority quoting for overflow when other providers can't meet the required window.

For international repatriation partners with recurring UK legs (typically consular services and international funeral logistics companies), we can set up a dedicated dispatch inbox with pre-agreed pricing and dispatch protocol. What we do not offer

Honest limits — funeral logistics demands transparency. We do not handle uncremated remains — this requires licensed hearse capability and funeral director credentialing outside our service. We do not book international air freight ourselves — we coordinate the UK ground leg to the airport cargo handler, then the funeral director's international partner or a specialist air-cargo forwarder books the flight. We do not operate airside at any UK airport — landside cargo handler drop-off only (Swissport, Menzies, dnata, DHL, Kuehne+Nagel, DB Schenker). We do not carry firearms or offer security escort. We do not offer a religious officiant service or witness function — we are a logistics service, and the family or funeral director provides the ceremony.

We do not offer scattering services ourselves — where a family or funeral director requests transport to a scattering location, our role ends at the hand-off. The scattering is done by the family, funeral director, or their appointed representative. We do not photograph the scattering or offer memorial-video services.
