Bromsgrove has more pharmaceutical wholesalers than any other town in this cluster: 7 registered to the BROMSGROVE post town, alongside 56 medical practices, 23 dental practices, 3 firms in hospital activities, 3 medical-device companies and 73 medical-research businesses, out of 4,407 active companies. Licensed wholesale distribution is Good Distribution Practice territory, which makes the first thing worth saying on this page a limitation rather than a capability. T&C Logistics is not an MHRA-licensed wholesale dealer and holds no GDP certification. We operate GDP-compliant transport processes under customer quality agreements, and where a consignment requires full GDP authorisation the job is coordinated with GDP-certified partner carriers. That matters because a carrier who blurs this exposes the shipper's own licence, not just its own reputation. Our base is about 12 miles north.
What exactly does T&C Logistics hold, and not hold?
Held: an Operator's Licence, Driver CPC, ADR driver certification, GDPR compliance, goods-in-transit and public liability insurance, and a ULEZ-compliant fleet. Not held: MHRA wholesale dealer authorisation, Good Distribution Practice certification, and any Home Office controlled drug licence.
The useful distinction is between a credential and a process. We operate GDP-compliant transport processes under customer quality agreements — meaning we will work to the requirements your quality system places on a carrier, including temperature band, documentation, handover and excursion reporting. What we cannot do is stand in place of an authorisation. The full held list is published on our licences page precisely so it can be checked at qualification stage rather than taken on trust.
| Requirement | Position |
|---|---|
| Dedicated vehicle, no shared load, no depot leg | Ours |
| Chilled 2-8 °C or ambient controlled 15-25 °C | Ours |
| Signed, timestamped handover to a named person | Ours |
| Excursion reported immediately and in writing | Ours |
| Work to a customer quality agreement's carrier requirements | Ours |
| MHRA wholesale dealer authorisation | Not held — partner carrier |
| GDP certification | Not held — partner carrier |
| Controlled drug licence | Not held — partner carrier |
When does a job go to a partner carrier instead?
When the consignment's own requirements need an authorisation we do not hold. In practice that is anything moving under a wholesale dealer's licence where the licence conditions require a GDP-certified carrier, and anything involving controlled drugs.
The handover is explicit rather than quiet: you are told the job is going to a partner, the paperwork reflects who actually carried it, and we do not present a partner's certification as ours. That is the opposite of how this usually goes wrong — the common failure is a carrier that accepts the work, says the right words, and leaves the shipper to discover at audit that the transport leg was outside its own licence conditions. Ask us at enquiry stage and you get a straight answer before a booking exists.
What can a quality agreement ask of us?
Most of the operational requirements, and none of the regulatory ones. A quality agreement can specify the temperature band and tolerance, the documentation that travels, who may receive, what constitutes an excursion, how fast it is reported and to whom, vehicle cleanliness, and that the consignment is not co-loaded.
All of those we can accept and work to, and we would rather have them in writing than inferred. What an agreement cannot do is confer GDP status on us by stipulating it — if your licence requires a certified carrier, the agreement needs a certified carrier. So the productive conversation at the start is which of your requirements are operational and which are regulatory, because the first set we can meet directly and the second determines whether the job is ours or a partner's.
How do chilled consignments travel?
In a dedicated vehicle pre-cooled to the band before it reaches the collection, with the compartment opened as few times as the route allows. The bands are chilled 2-8 °C, ambient controlled 15-25 °C, frozen -18 °C and below, and deep frozen on dry ice.
The reason dedicated matters is structural rather than promotional: every transfer between vehicles is a temperature event that does not appear on a delivery note, and a network has at least one. A single vehicle, one compartment, one setting from collection to delivery removes the category of failure rather than reducing its likelihood. Where several drops are on one run we plan the order to minimise openings, which sometimes means a less efficient route and a better cold chain.
| Band | Range | Typical consignment |
|---|---|---|
| Chilled | 2-8 °C | Vaccines, biologics, reagents |
| Ambient controlled | 15-25 °C | Finished dose forms, devices |
| Frozen | -18 °C and below | Frozen biological material |
| Deep frozen on dry ice | below -18 °C | Research and specialist material |
What happens on a temperature excursion?
You are told immediately and in writing, and the consignment is not delivered as though nothing happened. We do not offer an opinion on whether the product remains usable — that is a decision for your quality function against its own stability data.
What is worth agreeing before the first booking is the procedure: who we contact, by what route, and what we do with the consignment while you decide — continue, hold at a stated location, or return to origin. Settling that in the quality agreement rather than mid-journey is the difference between a controlled deviation and an improvised one, and it is the single most useful thing a pharmaceutical shipper can specify to a carrier.
Which Bromsgrove organisations use this service?
Wholesalers, practices and research businesses. The counts below are Companies House records for the BROMSGROVE post town, which is why they differ from Worcestershire totals.
| Sector | Firms registered to the post town | What moves |
|---|---|---|
| Medical research | 73 | Samples, research material, frozen consignments |
| Medical practices | 56 | Vaccines, specimens, cold-chain stock |
| Dental practices | 23 | Materials, appliances, instruments |
| Pharmaceutical wholesalers | 7 | Licensed stock under a quality agreement |
| Medical-device companies | 3 | Ambient controlled devices, loan kits |
| Hospital activities | 3 | Stores and equipment transfers |
| Industrial gases | 4 | Medical gas cylinders under ADR Class 2 |

How does Bromsgrove's position affect a pharmaceutical run?
It shortens the urban part. Junction 4 of the M5 is signed for Bromsgrove on the A38 and junction 1 of the M42 meets the same corridor, so a consignment heading south or east is on the motorway within one road move.
On temperature-controlled work that matters more than it does on general freight, because time in queues and at junctions is time the compartment is working hardest against ambient conditions. Northbound the position reverses: our base is about 12 miles away, so a Bromsgrove collection for a Black Country delivery carries a real approach leg — and because the vehicle must be pre-cooled before it arrives, that approach is part of the window we quote rather than something we hide inside a round figure.
Who may receive the consignment?
Whoever your quality agreement says, and nobody else. On pharmaceutical work we deliver to a named person rather than to an address, with a signed, timestamped handover — and nothing is left, posted through, or handed to a general reception if the agreement says otherwise.
This is a more frequent cause of a failed delivery than temperature is. A vehicle arriving correctly, on time and at the right band, to a site where the named recipient is unavailable and nobody else is authorised, has to hold or return the consignment. So give us the recipient, a deputy, and a phone number at booking, and tell us what you want done if neither is available — because that instruction is what determines whether an hour is lost or a day.
Can you run a scheduled route for a wholesaler?
Yes, and for a wholesaler a standing run is usually better than ad hoc booking for reasons beyond price. The same vehicle class each time, the same driver where possible, and a route whose compartment openings are planned rather than improvised are all easier to evidence at audit than a sequence of one-off jobs.
What we need to set one up is the days, the collection and delivery windows, the band, the typical consignment size and the named recipients at each stop. Where the volume varies we size the regular vehicle to the normal week and quote overflow separately rather than running a larger vehicle fifty-two times a year. One caveat that follows from the section above: a standing route does not change which authorisation applies, so if the stock requires a GDP-certified carrier the run is a partner's rather than ours, scheduled on the same basis.
What does a pharmaceutical run cost?
From £50 (ex VAT) at the smallest end, as one fixed price for the whole dedicated job agreed before collection. Final price depends on distance, vehicle, urgency and time - quoted in full upfront before you book.
| Driver | Effect |
|---|---|
| Distance and return leg | Dominant factor; about 12 miles of approach from our base |
| Band | Frozen and dry-ice work costs more than chilled |
| Pre-cool | Built into the quoted window rather than charged separately |
| Number of drops | Each compartment opening is planned for, not simply routed |
| Named-recipient handover | Waiting time where the recipient is unavailable |
| Out of hours | Evening, overnight and weekend work priced separately |
| Clean-air zones | Birmingham Clean Air Zone and the £12.50 London ULEZ at cost |

What cover applies, and how do I start?
Goods-in-transit insurance of £50,000 per consignment, extending to £1,000,000 through partner carriers where the value requires it, plus public liability of £1,000,000. Limits and exclusions are in our terms, and the one to note is consequential loss: the cover responds to the consignment, not to a batch written off or a clinic rescheduled.

- Tell us which of your requirements are operational and which are regulatory — that decides whether the job is ours or a partner's.
- Specify the band and tolerance in writing, and the documentation that must travel.
- Name who may receive, a deputy, and what to do if neither is available.
- Agree the excursion procedure: who we contact and whether the consignment continues, holds or returns.
- Accept the fixed price and a vetted driver-partner from our 3,000-plus network is assigned.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are you GDP certified or MHRA licensed?
- No to both, and that is the first thing a pharmaceutical shipper should establish rather than the last. T&C Logistics is not an MHRA-licensed wholesale dealer, holds no Good Distribution Practice certification and holds no controlled drug licence. We operate GDP-compliant transport processes under customer quality agreements, and where full GDP authorisation is required the job is coordinated with GDP-certified partner carriers. The held list is published on our licences page.
- When would the job go to a partner carrier?
- When the consignment's own requirements need an authorisation we do not hold — in practice, stock moving under a wholesale dealer's licence whose conditions require a GDP-certified carrier, and anything involving controlled drugs. The handover is explicit: you are told, and the paperwork reflects who actually carried it. We do not present a partner's certification as ours, which is how this usually goes wrong.
- Can our quality agreement make you GDP compliant?
- An agreement can specify what we do; it cannot confer a certification. It can set the temperature band and tolerance, the documentation that travels, who may receive, what counts as an excursion and how fast it is reported, vehicle cleanliness and no co-loading — all of which we accept and work to. If your licence requires a certified carrier, the agreement needs a certified carrier, and that determines whether the job is ours or a partner's.
- What happens if a consignment goes out of temperature range?
- You are told immediately and in writing, and nothing is delivered as though it had not happened. We do not offer a view on whether the product remains usable — that is your quality function's decision against its own stability data. Agree the procedure before the first booking: who we contact, by what route, and whether the consignment continues, holds at a stated location, or returns to origin.
- Who is allowed to sign for a pharmaceutical delivery?
- Whoever your quality agreement names, and nobody else. We deliver to a named person with a signed, timestamped handover; nothing is left or handed to a general reception if the agreement says otherwise. This causes more failed deliveries than temperature does, so give us the recipient, a deputy and a phone number at booking, plus an instruction for what to do if neither is available.
- Does the vehicle have to be pre-cooled before collection?
- Yes, and it is built into the window we quote. A compartment brought down to temperature with the goods already inside has already exposed them, so the vehicle runs to the band on its way to the collection. That pre-cool is short but real, which means a refrigerated vehicle cannot be summoned quite as instantly as a general van — worth knowing when the collection is unplanned.
