T&C Logistics transports ATMs and cash machines for estate operators, independent deployers, refurbishers and installers across the UK. Through-the-wall units typically weigh 300-500 kg and freestanding lobby units 150-300 kg, so they move on tail-lift vehicles with two-person handling. Machines must be empty of cash before collection: cash-in-transit is a separately regulated activity that we do not undertake. Installation and network commissioning stay with your engineer.

ATM & Cash Machine Transport pricing — from £50 (ex VAT)

Cash machines move for unglamorous reasons: a site's takings no longer justify the machine, a convenience store changes hands, a bank branch closes and the unit goes back to the deployer's depot, or a refurbisher buys an estate and has to collect it. Companies House records around 194 active UK companies with ATM or cash machine in their registered name, and between them the estate turns over constantly.

T&C Logistics transports ATM hardware for independent deployers, estate operators, refurbishers and installation contractors. Single relocations, estate collections and depot returns. We have run specialist transport since 2020 with over 2,400 deliveries completed and more than 3,000 vetted driver-partners nationwide, with GPS tracking on every vehicle. Goods-in-transit cover is £50,000 per consignment on our own vehicles and £1,000,000 through partners. Quotes from £50 (ex VAT), quoted in full upfront.

Do you carry cash inside the machine?

No. Machines must be emptied and cassettes removed before collection. Cash-in-transit is a separately regulated activity, and it is not a service T&C Logistics offers.

This is the first thing to establish because it defines the whole job. Staffed cash-handling and secure cash transit are regulated activities involving licensing under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 and a wholly different operational model - armoured vehicles, vetted crews and route protocols. We are a specialist freight carrier moving hardware.

The practical arrangement that works: your cash-in-transit provider empties the machine and removes the cassettes, then we collect the hardware. Where a machine is being decommissioned, the safe should ideally be empty and open or the keys accounted for separately. Our goods-in-transit cover of £50,000 per consignment applies to the machine as equipment; it does not extend to currency, and currency should not be present.

What ATM formats does T&C Logistics move?

Through-the-wall units, internal lobby and freestanding machines, countertop units, and the ancillary hardware around them - surrounds, plinths, canopies and signage.

Weight is dominated by the safe. A through-the-wall ATM with a certified safe typically weighs 300-500 kg and occasionally more, because the safe body is the heaviest single element and is not removable in service. Freestanding lobby machines typically run 150-300 kg. Countertop units are much lighter at 40-90 kg but carry the same handling sensitivities around the card reader and dispenser mechanism.

How is a through-the-wall machine removed?

By your engineer, before we arrive. Through-the-wall units are structurally installed into an aperture with a fixed surround, and removal is a building-fabric job as much as an equipment one.

The sequence that works is: your engineer isolates power and network, decommissions the machine, and frees it from the surround and any fixings; we then collect the freed unit. A through-the-wall machine that is still bolted into a wall is not a transport job, and a carrier who turns up expecting to lift one out has wasted the visit.

The aperture also has to be made safe or made good after removal, which is a building matter for the site. Tell us at quote stage whether the unit will be free-standing on the floor when we arrive or still in the wall - the difference decides crew size, timing and whether the job is possible at all on the day.

What security applies while the machine is in transit?

GPS tracking on every vehicle, vetted driver-partners, and a locked, enclosed load space. Where a consignment justifies it, a locked cage van adds a physical layer inside the vehicle.

An empty ATM is not a high-theft target in the way a full one is, but the hardware itself has value and the optics of an unsecured machine on an open vehicle are poor for everyone. All our drivers are vetted, all vehicles are GPS-tracked throughout the journey, and the load space is enclosed and locked. Collection and delivery times and addresses are recorded, which supports your own asset register.

For consignments where a full estate collection concentrates several machines in one vehicle, tell us the total value at quote stage: standard goods-in-transit cover is £50,000 per consignment, rising to £1,000,000 through partners, and we will confirm the applicable limit in writing. See our high-value courier service and banking and finance industry hub.

Can you handle an estate collection or a depot return programme?

Yes. Estate work is a routing problem: many small sites, geographically scattered, each needing a short visit and a two-person lift.

Independent deployer estates sit in convenience stores, petrol forecourts, pubs and leisure sites, which means most collections are from a retail unit with a member of staff who has never seen the machine moved. Sequencing several collections into one vehicle route is substantially cheaper than individual jobs, provided the site contact details and access hours are accurate.

What makes these programmes fail is not the transport, it is the site data - a store that closes at four when the schedule assumed six, or a machine that turns out still to be bolted in. Give us a site list with access hours, contact names and the decommissioning status of each machine, and the route can be planned properly.

What happens to decommissioned machines?

Refurbishment stock goes to the refurbisher; genuine scrap becomes waste electrical and electronic equipment on collection. T&C Logistics holds Environment Agency upper tier registration CBDU654368 as a waste carrier, broker and dealer.

ATMs fall under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 when scrapped. There is a second consideration specific to this equipment: a decommissioned machine may retain data on internal storage, and journal or transaction data on a disposed unit is a data protection matter under UK GDPR. Data destruction is the deployer's responsibility and should be completed before disposal, or arranged with a processor who will certify it.

We carry to a partner-operated permitted treatment facility; we do not treat, recycle or destroy data ourselves, and certified destruction is issued by the processor that performed it. See our secure IT disposal with chain of custody and WEEE collection service.

How do collections from live retail sites work?

Around the store's trading pattern, with a named contact who knows the collection is happening. Most deployer estates sit in convenience stores and forecourts where nobody on shift has ever seen the machine moved.

The failures in this work are almost never transport failures. They are a store manager who was not told, a machine still live on the network, a unit still bolted to the floor, or a shop that shuts at four when the schedule assumed six. Each of those turns a fifteen-minute collection into a wasted journey, and the cost lands on the operator.

What prevents it is a site record per machine: trading hours, the contact who will be there, the decommissioning status, and whether the unit is free-standing on the floor. Where a machine sits in a customer-facing area, collection outside trading hours is usually easier for everyone. Our crews are vetted and every vehicle is GPS-tracked, with collection times and locations recorded against your asset references.

Can the safe be moved separately from the machine?

On some formats yes, on others no, and it changes the job entirely because the safe is the majority of the weight.

Where a design allows the safe to be separated, a 400 kg through-the-wall unit can become two manageable components rather than one lift requiring skates and a survey. Where it does not - and on many certified installations it does not, by design - the machine moves as one and the weight has to be planned for. This is a question for the manufacturer's documentation or your engineer, not something to establish on the doorstep.

The related point is keys and combinations. A safe travelling locked with nobody able to open it at the destination is a problem that surfaces after the vehicle has gone. Account for keys and access codes separately from the hardware, and never send them in the machine. Collection and delivery are recorded with times and locations against your asset references.

What does ATM transport cost?

One fixed price per dedicated job, quoted upfront, fuel and goods-in-transit insurance included. ATM hardware is never consolidated onto a shared parcel network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will you move an ATM with cash still inside it?
No. Machines must be emptied and cassettes removed by your cash-in-transit provider before we collect. Secure cash transit is a separately regulated activity involving licensing under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 and a different operational model entirely - armoured vehicles and vetted crews. Our goods-in-transit cover applies to the machine as equipment and does not extend to currency, which should not be present.
Can you remove a through-the-wall ATM from the wall?
No, that is your engineer's work. Through-the-wall units are structurally installed into an aperture with a fixed surround, and removal is as much a building-fabric job as an equipment one. Your engineer isolates power and network, decommissions the machine and frees it from the surround; we then collect the freed unit. Making the aperture safe or good afterwards is also a site matter.
How heavy is an ATM?
The safe dominates the weight. A through-the-wall unit with a certified safe typically weighs 300-500 kg and occasionally more, because the safe body is the heaviest element and is not removable in service. Freestanding lobby machines typically run 150-300 kg and countertop units 40-90 kg. Give us the make and model at quote stage so vehicle and crew are matched to the actual figure.
What security do you provide in transit?
GPS tracking on every vehicle throughout the journey, vetted driver-partners, and an enclosed locked load space. Where value justifies it, a locked cage van adds a physical layer inside the vehicle. Collection and delivery times and addresses are recorded, supporting your own asset register. For estate collections that concentrate several machines in one vehicle, tell us the total value so the applicable insurance limit is confirmed in writing.
Can you collect machines from multiple sites in one run?
Yes, and clustered estate routes cost far less per machine than individual jobs. Deployer estates sit in convenience stores, forecourts, pubs and leisure sites, so most collections are from retail units. What makes these programmes fail is site data rather than transport - a store closing at four when the schedule assumed six, or a machine still bolted in. Provide access hours, contact names and decommissioning status per site.
What happens to data held on a scrapped machine?
Data destruction is the deployer's responsibility and should be completed before disposal. A decommissioned ATM may retain journal or transaction data on internal storage, which is a data protection matter under UK GDPR. We carry the hardware under Environment Agency upper tier registration CBDU654368 to a partner-operated permitted facility; we do not destroy data ourselves, and any certified destruction is issued by the processor that performed it.
Do you install the machine at the destination?
No. We deliver and position the unit; installation, structural fixing, power and network connection, and commissioning onto the payment network stay with your engineer. Through-the-wall installations in particular involve building fabric work. Our responsibility is that the machine arrives undamaged, at the right site, at the agreed time, with the movement recorded.
