How are gas cylinders carried?
Secured upright, valves protected, in a ventilated or open load space, with the load documented. Compressed and liquefied gases are classified dangerous goods and the carriage is governed by the ADR agreement.
The gases in this trade cover several classifications: argon and carbon dioxide as compressed or liquefied inert gases, oxygen as an oxidiser, and acetylene and propane as flammable gases. Segregation rules apply between some of them, and quantity thresholds determine how much of the full regime applies.

Why do electrodes have to stay dry?
Because low-hydrogen electrodes absorb atmospheric moisture, and moisture in the flux coating puts hydrogen into the weld — which causes cracking in the finished joint, sometimes days later.
This is a genuine metallurgical issue rather than a storage preference. Manufacturers supply low-hydrogen electrodes in sealed containers and specify re-drying procedures if the seal is broken, and fabrication shops working to a welding procedure keep them in heated quivers on site.
For transport it means the same thing as for timber and insulation: covered vehicles, sealed packaging kept sealed, and nothing left in the rain. A pallet of electrodes that has taken water is a pallet a fabricator working to a procedure specification cannot use.

How urgent are these deliveries?
As urgent as the fabrication. A workshop running to a delivery date with a welder idle is losing labour, and a site team that has run out of gas mid-shift cannot continue.
Site welding is the sharper case. A structural team working at height on a programme cannot pause for a day, and there is frequently no local supplier who holds the right gas mix. That makes response a function of the distributor's branch network as much as of the vehicle.

Do you handle cylinder exchange?
Yes, and exchange is the standard model. Cylinders are rented or held on a deposit and returned when empty, so a delivery of full cylinders collects the empties on the same visit.
That makes it a two-way movement with the vehicle loaded in both directions, and it makes the count matter. A cylinder that goes missing is a real cost — the customer is charged rental on it until it comes back, and disputes about how many went where are common in this trade.
Empties are the same classification as fulls for transport purposes in most respects, since residual pressure and gas remain. They travel restrained and upright exactly as full cylinders do rather than being thrown in the back.
Can you deliver to fabrication workshops and sites?
Both, and they differ. A workshop has a goods-in door, a forklift and someone expecting the delivery; a site has a gate, an induction and a welder somewhere in the structure.
Site gas delivery also raises a storage question. Cylinders on site need appropriate storage — secured, ventilated, away from ignition sources — and that is the site's arrangement rather than ours, but it affects where a delivery can actually be left.

Do you run scheduled distributor rounds?
Yes, and the routine half is larger than the urgent one. Distributors supply workshops on a regular cycle, and cylinder exchange in particular runs to a predictable rhythm.
Scheduled rounds also reduce urgent calls, which is the argument in every trade supply sector: a workshop with a reliable weekly delivery and a sensible cylinder holding runs out less often than one ordering reactively.

What about damaged or out-of-test cylinders?
They go back to the gas supplier rather than anywhere else. Cylinders are pressure vessels subject to periodic inspection and test, and an out-of-test or damaged cylinder is the supplier's to deal with.
A carrier's role is to return it safely rather than to judge it. A cylinder with a damaged valve or visible corrosion is flagged rather than loaded casually, and where a cylinder is genuinely unsafe to move that is a conversation with the gas supplier rather than a transport decision.
What we do not do is fill, test, decant or dispose of cylinders. Those are the gas supplier's activities and require facilities and competence a carrier does not have.
Do you move welding sets and equipment?
Yes. Welding plant moves between workshops, sites and service agents constantly, and it is heavier and more awkward than the consumables that go with it.
An inverter set is manageable; a transformer set, an engine-driven welder or a submerged arc rig is not, and those need a tail lift and two people. Engine-driven sets bring the fuel question that any powered equipment does, and should travel drained or at minimum level.
Service exchange is the recurring movement: a set fails, a replacement goes out, the faulty one comes back. That is a two-way job better arranged as one visit than as two bookings, and it is what keeps a fabrication shop working.
What about fume extraction and PPE stock?
They are the bulky, light half of the order and they matter more than they look. Welding fume is a recognised health risk and extraction is not optional in most workshops.
Extraction consumables — filters, hoses, nozzles — are bulky and easily damaged, and a crushed filter is a filter that does not seal. They travel above dense items rather than beneath them, which costs load efficiency and prevents waste.
PPE is similar: helmets, gauntlets, jackets and screens fill space, weigh nothing, and mark or crush if loaded badly. A welding order frequently contains a classified cylinder, a moisture-critical consumable and a bulky PPE line, which is why these loads are planned rather than filled.
Can you cover peak and shutdown periods?
Yes, and shutdowns are when this trade concentrates. Planned maintenance shutdowns at refineries, power stations and large plants generate intense short bursts of welding activity and consumable demand.
The characteristic of shutdown work is that everything happens at once and nothing can slip. A shutdown has a fixed window, contractors work around the clock inside it, and running out of gas or electrodes at three in the morning is a genuine problem with no supplier open.
