T&C Logistics delivers for packaging distributors and manufacturers across the UK. Packaging is the clearest volumetric load in distribution: a vehicle fills completely long before it approaches its payload, so the cubic capacity of the vehicle rather than its weight rating decides what the delivery costs.

Packaging Supplies Delivery pricing — from £50 (ex VAT)

One fixed price per dedicated job, quoted in full upfront before you book — fuel and goods-in-transit insurance included, no hidden fees. Final price depends on distance, vehicle, urgency and time of day.

Packaging is the only trade where a full vehicle can weigh less than the driver's toolkit. A Luton crammed floor to roof with void fill and flat-packed cartons is at capacity and nowhere near its payload — which means every quote based on weight is the wrong quote.

T&C Logistics delivers for packaging distributors, converters and manufacturers. Companies House records over 2,100 active UK companies in packaging. We have run trade distribution since 2020 with more than 3,000 vetted driver-partners nationwide. Quotes from £50 (ex VAT), quoted in full upfront before you book.

Why does packaging price on volume rather than weight?

Because it is almost entirely air by design. A pallet of void fill or flat-packed cartons occupies a full pallet footprint at full height and weighs a fraction of what that space could carry.

ProductDensityPractical effect
Void fill, looseExtremely lowFills a vehicle; weighs nothing
Flat-packed cartonsLowStacks well; volume-limited
Bubble film rollsVery lowBulky; crushes if loaded under
Stretch filmDenseThe heavy item in a light load
Tape casesModerateSmall and dense
Strapping and toolsDenseLoad low
Foam and protectiveVery lowVolume only
Pallet wrap machinesHeavy equipmentDifferent handling entirely

The practical rule is to quote the cubic metres rather than the kilograms, and to know before loading whether the order contains film — a few pallets of stretch film changes a light load into a normal one. See our Luton van and box truck pages.

Who buys packaging and how often?

Warehouses, fulfilment operations, manufacturers and e-commerce sellers, and almost all of them buy on consumption rather than to a plan.

Consumption buying makes packaging the classic stockout item. A fulfilment operation that runs out of cartons stops shipping entirely, which turns a low-value delivery into an urgent one within hours.

That is the shape of the trade: routine scheduled replenishment most of the time, punctuated by emergency runs where a customer has miscounted. Distributors who can answer both keep accounts. See our urgent courier service.

What happens when a customer runs out?

Their operation halts, and the value of the delivery has nothing to do with the value of the goods. A pallet of cartons is worth a few hundred pounds; a fulfilment centre unable to dispatch for a day loses far more.

That inverts the usual urgency calculation in exactly the way a hose failure or a failed sealed unit does. The customer is not paying for the cartons — they are paying for their shipping operation to keep running.

Peak periods make it acute. A November stockout at an e-commerce operation is a genuinely serious event, and it is also the week when every distributor's transport is fully committed.

Does packaging need protection in transit?

More than its value suggests. Cartons that get wet are scrap, bubble film crushed under weight loses its function, and a punctured roll of film unspools into an unusable mess.

Water is the main risk and it is entirely avoidable — packaging is not a load for an open vehicle in British weather, and a soaked pallet of cartons cannot be dried and sold.

The other risk is loading order. Dense items on top of low-density ones crush them, and in a load that is mostly low-density that is easy to do. Film and tape go on the floor; void fill and bubble go on top.

Do you deliver to fulfilment centres?

Yes, and fulfilment sites have their own booking regime. Large operations run booked delivery slots, and arriving outside one means waiting or being turned away.

Booking-in is the recurring practical issue and it is not the driver's to solve on arrival. A reference number, a slot time and a gate location need to exist before the vehicle sets off, and a distributor who supplies them gets a delivery rather than a failed one.

Smaller fulfilment and 3PL operations are more flexible but frequently have no forklift, which turns a pallet delivery into a hand-ball. Knowing which applies before quoting is the difference between a profitable job and a slow one.

Can you handle machinery as well as consumables?

Yes, and packaging distributors sell both. Pallet wrappers, strapping machines, case erectors and tape dispensers are equipment rather than consumables and need different handling entirely.

A pallet wrapping machine runs 200 to 400 kilograms with a turntable, and it is top-heavy on its own base. It travels strapped and upright rather than laid down, and it needs mechanical handling at both ends.

Installation and commissioning belong to the supplier or the manufacturer's engineer rather than to the delivery. We place the machine where it is going and leave the connection to whoever is qualified for it. See our pallet racking delivery service.

Is there a seasonal pattern?

A sharp one, driven entirely by retail. Packaging demand peaks from October through early December as e-commerce and retail build stock and ship the peak, then falls away in January.

The peak is doubly hard because it is simultaneously the peak for the transport that serves it. Distributors need more deliveries in exactly the weeks when vehicles are most committed elsewhere.

Distributors who agree peak capacity in advance rather than calling in October get vehicles. That is true across every seasonal trade we serve, and packaging has one of the sharpest curves of any of them.

Do you collect surplus and waste packaging?

Yes, and the flow runs both ways. Customers generate cardboard and film waste in quantity, and obsolete or misprinted stock has to leave a distributor's warehouse.

Cardboard and clean film are recyclable materials with genuine value rather than waste to dispose of, and they need to reach a recovery route rather than a general skip. Contaminated packaging is a different question.

T&C Logistics holds Environment Agency upper tier registration CBDU654368 as a waste carrier, broker and dealer, so the collection leg is carried lawfully with a waste transfer note. See our WEEE collection service for how our waste documentation works.

What do you need to quote a packaging delivery?

Pallet count and pallet height, not weight — which is the reverse of almost every other trade and the reason packaging quotes go wrong.

A standard UK pallet is 1,200 × 1,000 mm, and packaging routinely builds to two metres or more, so four pallets of void fill can occupy the whole floor and full height of a vehicle at almost no weight. Six pallets at half height may be an easier load than four at full.

The one weight question worth asking is whether the order contains stretch film or strapping. Those are the dense items, and a few pallets of film change the vehicle decision entirely.

Do you deliver bespoke and printed packaging?

Yes, and printed stock deserves more care than plain. A printed carton run is made to order with a plate or setup cost behind it, so a damaged pallet is not replaced from stock — it is reprinted.

That puts printed packaging in the same category as cut-to-size plastic and made-to-measure blinds: modest goods value, substantial replacement lead time, and handling proportionate to the consequence rather than the invoice.

Printed stock is also more sensitive to damp than plain board, because moisture affects print surface and carton rigidity together. Covered transport is a requirement rather than a preference.

Can you deliver to several sites for one customer?

Yes, and multi-site distribution is common in this trade. A customer with four warehouses takes the same consumables at all of them, frequently ordering centrally and delivering locally.

A single vehicle covering several sites in a region costs far less than separate consignments, and it gives each site the same delivery day rather than four unrelated ones. That predictability is what stops sites over-ordering as a hedge.

The constraint is booking regimes. Where two sites in a round have different slot systems, the round has to be built around the tighter of them — which is a planning question worth settling once rather than negotiating weekly.

Central ordering with local delivery also needs the paperwork to match. A consignment billed to head office and delivered to a depot has to arrive with a reference that the receiving site recognises, or it gets refused by people who did not place the order.

What does packaging supplies delivery cost?

A rate per drop on a standing arrangement, or one fixed price for an urgent run, quoted upfront with fuel and goods-in-transit insurance included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is packaging quoted on volume rather than weight?
Because it is almost entirely air by design. A pallet of void fill or flat-packed cartons occupies a full footprint at full height and weighs a fraction of what that space could carry. Quote the cubic metres rather than the kilograms — but know whether the order contains stretch film first, because a few pallets of film change a light load into a normal one.
How urgent is a packaging stockout?
Very. A fulfilment operation that runs out of cartons stops shipping entirely, so a pallet worth a few hundred pounds is holding up an operation losing far more per day. The customer is not paying for the cartons — they are paying for their shipping to keep running. A November stockout at an e-commerce operation is a serious event.
Does packaging need weather protection?
More than its value suggests. Cartons that get wet are scrap and cannot be dried and sold, bubble film crushed under weight loses its function, and a punctured film roll unspools into an unusable mess. It is not a load for an open vehicle in British weather, and dense items must not sit on low-density ones.
What do you need before delivering to a fulfilment centre?
A booking reference, a slot time and a gate location, before the vehicle sets off. Large operations run booked slots and arriving outside one means waiting or being turned away — that is not the driver's to solve on arrival. Smaller 3PLs are more flexible but frequently have no forklift, which turns a pallet delivery into a hand-ball.
Can you move packaging machinery?
Yes. Pallet wrappers, strapping machines and case erectors are equipment rather than consumables — a wrapping machine runs 200-400 kg with a turntable and is top-heavy on its own base, so it travels strapped and upright with mechanical handling at both ends. Installation and commissioning belong to the supplier's engineer, not the delivery.
When is the busiest period?
October through early December, as e-commerce and retail build stock and ship the peak. It is doubly hard because it is simultaneously the peak for the transport that serves it — distributors need more deliveries in exactly the weeks vehicles are most committed. Agreeing peak capacity in advance rather than calling in October is what gets vehicles.
Can you take away cardboard and film waste?
Yes, and the flow runs both ways — customers generate cardboard and film in quantity, and obsolete or misprinted stock has to leave a distributor's warehouse. Clean cardboard and film are recyclable materials with genuine value and need a recovery route rather than a general skip. We carry under registration CBDU654368 with a transfer note.
